Community means so much, it is where you feel welcomed with love and friendship. It’s where you make your home, work, exercise and socialize. Often it’s where your friends and family live. Like many of us, it is where you’ll join family and friends to celebrate cherished traditions, make new memories and enjoy the holiday season.
The L’Arche Toronto community has been built on these transformative relationships. L’Arche Toronto makes its home in east Toronto with four homes and the Gathering Place where Sol Express programming happens. Women and men, with and without intellectual disabilities, share all that life has to offer in this community. We live, work, volunteer, and socialize along with friends and neighbours. But for people with intellectual disabilities, this isn’t always as easy as it could or should be. This is where your help is needed.
Part of L’Arche’s mission is to provide daytime programming and supports that enhance a person’s opportunities for social relationships, learning and creating opportunities. The provincial government provides funding towards basic structures such as staffing, however your donation will support important activities and programs that are not fully funded, all of which contribute to L’Arche’s unique approach to providing care for adults with intellectual disabilities and fostering community. These minimally funded activities provide supports for daily living (eg. getting to appointments and physical therapies), employment, supported or volunteer placements, and Sol Express, our creative and performance arts program. Through participation in these activities we help individuals with intellectual disabilities discover their gifts and abilities, and support them to achieve their goals for a meaningful life. We hope you agree and will give generously today.
Here’s how you can help:
- $1,120 will provide one person Sol Express programming for one month
- $238 will provide an individual with specialized transportation for one week
- $150 will provide one individual with one-to-one support for one day
You will be supporting Lucy, who every week goes swimming with her support worker at Variety Village, and Robert, who earlier this year was proud to be on stage for seven performances as part of Sol Express’s Seasons at the Toronto Fringe Festival.
Your donation will help provide inclusive community opportunities. Thank you for making L’Arche Toronto, a community within the community working with others to create a world where everyone belongs.
For over 40 years, L’Arche Toronto has brought to life the vision of Jean Vanier, where people with and without intellectual disabilities share life in community along with a wide circle of family, friends, and neighbours. Inclusive community participation makes a dramatic improvement in the quality of life of someone with an intellectual disability. In fact, it is truly transformative.
