About Sol Express
The movement of ‘disabilities art’ is breaking new ground in expressing the experience of people with disabilities and is certainly invigorating the arts.
Sol Express is made up of 6-8 individuals with intellectual disabilities who work with program director Cheryl Zinyk in collaboration with other professionals in the creative community
to develop skills in drama, dance, voice and art.
It is our hope that this innovative program, will engage a broad range of people across the Greater Toronto Area to explore questions about community, spirituality, growth, conflict resolution, relationship and belonging.
Opportunities are provided for the small creative team to perform, as well as to develop skills in facilitation by leading workshops for other adults with disabilities, schools and other community groups who share a common interest in building a more vibrant, creative society.
Currently, the group meets three days a week. If you know of anyone who may be interested in joining the group or participating in the weekly Creative Encounters Gatherings held each Wednesday from 4-6 please contact Cheryl at 416-406-2869 ext 25 or cheryl@larchetoronto.org

Quotes of Note
"It is important for people with disabilities to connect with one another to create a friendship bond between all adults with different abilities. This is important for Toronto because we have so many different types of people living in the big city together who need to learn about compassion and treating each other nicely."
Nick Herd - Creative Arts Program participant
"What I have seen in the community of people who have a developmental disability is a strong sense of worth and truth. As professional theatre artists, we are constantly aiming for a balance between the illusionary and the real. The group of artists I am working with at L’Arche has an extraordinary sense of this balance and connection. They know what they want to say and when and how they will say their truth. It is a refreshing journey."
