L’Arche Toronto was founded on intuition – a ‘gut’ feeling that the message of L’Arche had places to go. This same spirit of adventure and risk, and the conviction that all people have something to offer became the momentum that has manifested in the creative arts program of L’Arche Toronto, Sol Express.  Sol Express joins together the movement, voice, music, art, theatre, and dance of individuals with developmental disabilities into creative expressions on themes such as hope and belonging.

Sol Express Performers:

This group is open to committed people who have a developmental disability and love to perform.  The group meets twice a week to develop skills, consult with professionals, and explore the creative process which results in original works in front of various audiences.  Led by Cheryl Zinyk, Artistic Coordinator, and Matt Rawlins, Artistic Assistant, Sol Express performs with an enthusiasm that is infectious and engages the audience.

Sol Express Creative Arts

This is a fabulous group of individuals with creative flare. This non performance oriented group involves music, movement, crafts, theatre games and story development. Sol Express Creative Arts is often instrumental in the set design and creative scenery used in the Sol Express Performers productions.  Recently, works by artists in Sol Express Creative Arts were showcased at the Art Gallery of Ontario and just completed another project entitled MASK that was funded by the Ontario Arts Council.

Formed by and rooted in the values of the L’Arche Toronto Community, the mission of the Creative Arts Program is:

• To provide opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities to explore & share their gifts and stories through creative expression.
• To explore and reflect on the human condition through inclusion and the need for community.
• To influence people in how they respond to the gifts and challenges of difference.
