Please help provide support, opportunities and connections!

We hope you are keeping well. This has been one of the most unusual years of our lives. Yet, we know that others have lived much, much more difficult days!  At L’Arche Toronto,  we are thankful for the many kindnesses shown to us over the past nine months!

You can support us as we carry out the mission of L’Arche in Toronto during this pandemic by helping us to continue to provide safe and stimulating activities and a continued sense of connectedness and  community, while members stay in their homes!

At L’Arche Toronto, core members discover home, friendship, support for daily life, a variety of ways to engage in the community, a circle of support, and a sense of hope. Individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families in the broader Toronto community discover meaningful, innovative programs such as Sol Express, a creative arts and performance program, and Trying It on For Size (TIFS), a one-to-one life-skills coaching program that builds independence and creates places of belonging for participants.

This year has meant many changes for all of us! Instead of meeting friends and family in person, we have learned to live with porch visits, phone calls and virtual get-togethers. Connections and the vibrant community life aspects of L’Arche life have been particularly difficult to maintain, yet we are all making the best of it!

Instead of going out to their day programs, some members have transitioned to taking part in Sol Express and other exercise and creative arts sessions online. Weekly community connections and time of prayer continue on ZOOM. For some members, however, online meeting methods are difficult to use. Therefore, we have started a new daytime support program with an additional assistant in each home providing activities to engage core members during the day – be it, arts and crafts, going on errands, getting to appointments or, as allowed, having socially distanced visits with family and friends.

Please make a contribution to L’Arche Toronto today to help us provide support, opportunities and connections that promote healthy, meaningful and connected lives during and coming out of this pandemic.

Here’s how you can help:

  • $1,000 will provide a full week of focussed daytime support in one of our homes, on a one-to-one or small group basis.

  • $500 will provide two art kits for individuals who are taking part in Sol Express programming virtually.

  • $360 will allow an artist to take part in weekly Sol Express programming on ZOOM

  • $250 will provide specialized transportation for one week so that individuals may get to and from medical appointments safely.

  • $100 will provide focussed one-to-one or small group support for a day in one of our homes or the community.

Please donate to L’Arche Toronto as we continue to navigate through COVID-19, while offering  members a home, varied opportunities for personal development and  connection to friends and family.
